With a significant place in the history of Sicilian agriculture and viticulture, Tenuta Regaleali has served as the home of the noble Tasca d’Almerita family since 1830. The altitude, quality terroir, extraordinary heritage, and strong commitment to sustainable viticulture have made Tenuta Regaleali one of the most exceptional estates in Italy.

The Tasca d’Almerita family, one of the oldest and most prestigious winemaking families in Italy, has managed the operation of Tenuta Regaleali for nearly 200 years. Located in the highlands of central Sicily, the estate was recognized as a model farm in the Sicilian agricultural annual of 1854. Carrying forward their legacy of agricultural innovation, Tenuta Regaleali today is a global leader in sustainable viticulture. Each bottle of Tenuta Regaleali reflects the Tasca family’s vision for the world with sustainability at its core.

The Tasca Family

Don Lucio and Don Carmelo Mastrogiovanni-Tasca, purchased the fiefdoms of “Regaliali” and “Almerita” (2,056 acres) from Don Pedro Alvarez de Toledo, the Duke of Fernandina. This marked the establishment of their estates in the appellation Contea di Sclafani, at a time when Sicily was still under Spanish rule.

Alberto Tasca

Alberto, CEO and eighth-generation of the Tasca d’Almerita family, is a dynamic figure rooted in Sicily’s winemaking traditions. Building upon his family’s legacy, he expanded the family’s estates across four distinct Sicilian regions with the goal of promoting the array of Sicily’s native grape varieties. While history and tradition guide him forward, Alberto is equally committed to innovation in the realm of sustainability and is a passionate advocate of biodiversity. Alberto’s forward-thinking approach continues to shape the future of the Sicilian wine industry and its impact on the world stage.

Laura Orsi

Laura Orsi, Tenuta Regaleli’s winemaker, holds a Ph.D. Cum laude in Food Science and a Masters in Oenology. In 2004, she was appointed Head Winemaker of all Tasca d’Almerita estates and chose to reside in a small home amongst the Tenuta Regaleali vineyards, ensuring close oversight of the daily operations. Laura believes the vineyards dictate the direction of the winemaking process each vintage; her winemaking philosophy is driven by the grapes themselves. Her approach is rooted in the principle of minimal intervention to preserve the unique characteristics of each varietal.

Region

Tenuta Regaleali is unique due to its singular micro-climate, high altitude and 12 different soil types spread over 1,400 acres that provide distinct characteristics to the wines. Located within the appellation of Contea di Sclafani, Tenuta Regaleali is located at an elevation of 2,000-3,300 feet above sea level at one of the highest points in Sicily. Only three wineries are found amidst this rugged farming land, Tenuta Regaleali being the largest and most tenured among them.

Sustainability

The Tasca family was the first to obtain dual sustainability certifications from SOStain and VIVA. Tenuta Regaleali has also been awarded Robert Parker’s coveted Green Emblem in 2021. To date, this incredible accolade has been given to only 39 wineries worldwide.

In addition, Tasca d’Almerita is certified B Corp and has become part of an international network of businesses that meet high standards of social and environmental performance, responsibility, and transparency.
